FAQ
These are common questions clients ask before beginning a project. The answers below offer clarity about our process, expectations, and investment.
Why Work With a Design Firm
Why hire a professional interior designer?
Renovations aren’t simply about choosing finishes. They involve hundreds of interconnected decisions — and those decisions affect how your home functions, feels, and performs long after construction is complete.
A kitchen renovation alone can involve 250–400 coordinated choices. Bathrooms often require 150–250. Even furnishing a living room may include dozens of decisions related to layout, lighting, scale, materials, and finish.
Each decision influences the next.
Without clear leadership, projects can quickly become reactive — leading to conflicting selections, budget strain, or avoidable revisions.
An interior designer brings order to that complexity. Decisions are considered in sequence, documented carefully, and evaluated in context so your investment works the way it should.
It’s not about decoration. It’s about direction.
What does professional design include?
Professional design involves far more than selecting finishes.
Fees reflect the time required to develop layouts, evaluate materials, coordinate details, document decisions, communicate with trades, manage procurement, and guide installation.
You are investing in design, organization, documentation, coordination, and leadership — not simply aesthetics.
Our Process
How does the design process work?
We operate through defined design phases that guide scope, budget, and decision-making from start to finish.
Each phase builds on the last so decisions are sequenced properly and the project progresses in an organized, steady way.
You can explore a detailed overview of our phases on the About page.
How do projects begin?
Projects begin with a paid consultation.
This working session allows us to review scope, clarify objectives, and determine whether the project is a strong fit before moving into formal design phases.
What happens after the design consultation?
Once direction is established, projects move into design development.
This phase may include site documentation, spatial planning, and focused working sessions to refine layouts, materials, and key decisions in preparation for construction or furnishing.
Do you oversee delivery and installation?
When included in the scope, we coordinate professional delivery and installation to support proper execution of the design.
For furnishing projects, final styling and placement are part of completing the space — not an afterthought.
Is final styling really necessary?
Yes. Final styling is the completion of the design.
Construction and furnishing establish the foundation of a space. Art, accessories, textiles, and lighting adjustments bring depth, balance, and refinement.
Without this final layer, even a well-executed renovation can feel unfinished. With it, the home feels fully realized.
How involved will I need to be?
You’ll be involved at key review points throughout each phase.
Meetings are scheduled to review progress and confirm direction, while detailed coordination and design development take place between meetings. This structure allows you to stay informed without feeling overwhelmed by day-to-day details.
How is communication handled throughout the project?
Communication happens at defined milestones throughout each phase where meetings are scheduled to review progress, confirm direction, and gather your input. Between meetings, we refine concepts, coordinate details, and develop documentation so each decision is thoughtfully prepared before it reaches you.
This structure keeps the project moving forward while ensuring you remain informed and confident at every stage.
You won’t be managing day-to-day coordination — that work happens behind the scenes so you can focus on the bigger decisions.
Investment & Planning
Is there a minimum for project investment?
We specialize in renovation leadership and full-scope interior projects that require coordinated planning and detailed specification.
Because our work is structured in phases, comprehensive renovation engagements involve a defined minimum design investment. This investment level reflects the time and coordination required to guide a project from planning through execution.
Specific ranges are reviewed during the Blueprint Session once scope and complexity are clarified.
How much is the initial consultation, and what does it include?
The initial consultation, called the Blueprint Session, is $425 and includes up to 90 minutes on-site in your home or project location.
This working session is an opportunity to evaluate scope, discuss priorities, explore early design ideas, and establish realistic direction for the project. We’ll review layout considerations, material direction, and preliminary budget expectations so you leave with greater clarity about next steps.
The consultation does not include written deliverables or drawings. It is a strategic working session designed to assess fit and clarify whether moving into formal design phases makes sense.
Consultation fees are separate from ongoing design services and are not credited toward future phases. The fee is required in full prior to scheduling.
How are selections and purchasing managed?
Once selections are approved, procurement is managed with care and organization.
This may include proposals, ordering, tracking, and coordination with vendors and trades to ensure each element is sourced accurately and arrives as intended.
Can changes be made after approvals?
Revisions requested after formal approvals may affect scope, timeline, or fees.
Adjustments are reviewed thoughtfully within the current project phase to maintain clarity and forward momentum.
What if we have begun working in Phase 1 or 2, and want to add more to the project?
It’s common for projects to evolve as ideas become clearer.
If you decide to expand the scope while we’re already working together, we’ll review the requested additions within the context of the current phase. Additional rooms, features, or services may require added design time, coordination, or adjustments to the timeline and fees.
Because decisions are developed holistically, additions are evaluated carefully to ensure the overall direction remains clear and the project continues progressing in an organized way.
Our goal is not to restrict growth — it’s to maintain clarity as the scope evolves.
How are tariffs and pricing fluctuations handled?
Construction materials and furnishings are affected by global supply chains. Manufacturer increases, freight costs, currency fluctuations, and government-imposed tariffs may impact pricing at any time.
All proposals reflect pricing available at the time they are prepared. Pricing is not guaranteed until orders are placed and vendor confirmations are received. Delays in approvals, deposits, or procurement may result in price adjustments beyond our control.
We coordinate ordering strategically to help protect timeline and budget stability whenever possible.
What if a project pauses due to travel, holidays, or other factors?
Planned pauses should be communicated in advance so scheduling can be adjusted appropriately.
Clear communication helps maintain continuity when the project resumes.
Privacy & Photography
Will my project be photographed?
Professional photography is an important part of documenting completed work and maintaining the standards of our portfolio.
Photography is discussed individually and scheduled with care. During photo sessions, we work respectfully within your home and maintain a professional, discreet presence.
Client privacy is always protected. No personal information, family photographs, identifying details, or private materials are ever shared. Images selected for publication focus solely on the design work itself and are used only with prior agreement.
Specific photography terms and permissions are outlined in the Letter of Agreement once a project is formally secured.
How is client privacy handled?
Discretion is fundamental to our work.
We do not share client names, personal details, project information, or imagery without permission. Many of our clients value privacy, and we operate with professionalism and confidentiality throughout every phase of a project.
Specific confidentiality provisions and photography terms are outlined in the Letter of Agreement once a project is formally secured.
